Triumph Thunderbird 900 at the sea side

Here is a photograph of a Triumph Thunderbird 900 photographed at Paignton harbour in Devon. The colourful sea side background is contrasted by the powerful cloudy grey skies and that almost compliments the maroon and silver two tone pain scheme on this bike?

This 2001 model is a lovely example of why these Hinckly build Triumph’s are still enjoying such popularity amongst Triumph enthusiasts.

Hi, I chanced on your site looking for info on the TB 900 Sport. I’m looking at buying one here in Australia. I wonder if your would mind giving me your opinion on a couple of things about the bike.
I ride with a group of cruiser riders. Harley’s mostly but they are not my style. I love the look of the TB Sport.
I was comparing bikes like the Yamaha XJR 1300, the Thruxton and even a VMAX. The only thing that concerned me was the power on the TB 900 Sport. Will it perform well enough to keep up with the big Harley’s and be comfortable on long rides. I like the 80 s muscle bike and the TB Sport has the old school look.
Thanks for your time. I will keep an eye on your site.
    Thanks

Wayne, hi……. I understand exactly where you are coming from. I love the look of the TBS and do kind of regret selling it. It was comfortable enough, but it is styled like a sports bike so the riding position is different to cruisers. It will certainly keep up with the other bikes and even out perform, certainly out handle them; but….. here’s the thing… the Thunderbird Sport delivers its power further up the rev range and I found it lumpy below 3k rpm. That is why I ended up changing over to the standard Thunderbird which pulls well from 2k rpm and is much more suited for cruising.

So like all things in life, it’s about compromise and a trade off – looks against riding style? Hope this helps.
At the end of the day the TBS is/was a beautiful bike and I know deep down I regret selling it.

Thanks, I really appreciate your reply. I ride an SR400 with clip ons and cafe seat. It’s a 400 single So the ride, I expect will be luxurious. I’m hoping the revs wont concern me. The style is right where my head is at so I think I will take the plunge.
